Led by the Center for Community Engagement and supported by the and , the STEM Corps provides tutoring and enrichment activities focused on supporting K-12 student learning in math and sciences. CSUCI students with a strong STEM and/or Education background will work up to 3 hours per week at a community partner site(s) to support the development of STEM skills, learning and curiosity. The specific STEM activities will be developed in collaboration with the community partner and may include:
- engaging in STEM experiments
- engaging in STEM academic activities with selected students either one-on-one or with small groups
- developing specific STEM skills
- tutoring in STEM homework
- building creative STEM activities to do at home

Applicants must:
- be a current CSUCI undergraduate student
- maintain a 3.0 GPA
- have a strong science and/or math skills
- ability to work well with children
- available afternoon or early evening for some locations
- support the CSUCI STEAM Carnival on Saturday, March 8, 2025
- serve 3 hours per week (100 hours maximum)
- make a one-year commitment
- have reliable transportation to off-campus sites
- Pay rate: $24.00

Aliya Atkins
Aliya Atkins is a first-year in the Mechatronics Engineering program. Aliya chose CSUCI for its beautiful, beachside environment, supportive community, and unique Mechatronics Engineering program. After graduating in 2028, her goal is to work as a Mechatronics Engineer, specializing in machine equipment and robotic systems, while also volunteering with STEM programs for youth. Through her role in the Edu Corps and STEM Corps, she provides homework assistance, literacy support, and STEM-focused tutoring for K-12 students at the . Aliya’s passion for STEM began in high school, where her Engineering teachers encouraged her to explore robotics and machine learning, pushing her to step out of her comfort zone. They taught Aliya valuable lessons about resilience and confidence, especially as a woman in STEM, and their guidance has been crucial in shaping her educational career path. As a result, when searching for a campus job, Aliya specifically sought out a STEM position where she could inspire others to take the leap to learn and try - a key part of achieving success in STEM. Being involved in community work is important to her, not only to find purpose but to learn and grow alongside others. Aliya enjoys meeting new people, and in her free time, she plays volleyball and reads.

Isabella Jackson
Isabella Jackson is a senior, majoring in Environmental Science and Resource Management. She was attracted to this position because it combines her passion for science and working with children. After graduation, Isabella plans to attend grad school for Environmental Science and have a career in research. Dr. Ariel Vaughn, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, has made a positive impression on Isabella. She says that Dr. Vaughn has been a great leader and has worked hard to create an inclusive atmosphere within her research lab. Isabella aspires to be like her while working with children in her current job as well as in her future career conducting research. She will be serving at in Oxnard.

Jacqueline Manriquez
Jacqueline Manriquez is a sophomore, majoring in Health Science and minoring in Spanish. She was attracted to this position because it allowed working with children. After graduation, Jacqueline would like to attend grad school and pursue a career in the health field working with children. She will be providing academic homework support with Edu Corps and facilitating science activities with the STEM Corps at in Oxnard.

Saisree Kalikota
Saisree Kalikota is a graduate student in the Biotechnology & Bioinformatics program. She was interested in this position because she enjoys tutoring children and helping them expand their learning. She believes it’s important to get involved in a community because it will help with personal and professional growth, as well as strengthen relationships with people. Saisree’s high school science teacher was a positive influence in her life. He taught her how important it is to have ethics, humanity, and respect for the culture. After graduation, Saisree plans to apply to internships with biotech companies to gain hands-on experience. Saisree will be serving at the .

Diana Alfaro
Diana Alfaro is a junior, majoring in Biology. She was interested in this position because her values closely aligned with the Center for Community Engagement’s values of building a culture of service. In addition to being passionate about service, she also has a strong passion for animals, especially the harmful and unnecessary practice of cat declawing. She’s always eager to engage in discussions about animal welfare and how to promote a more compassionate approach to pet care. After graduation, Diana plans to pursue a career in Forensics. She will be providing technical support for the Center for Community Engagement as a STEM Corps Ambassador. She is also one of the CCE’s Volunteer Engagement Ambassadors, supporting the Voices of CI/Alumni Spotlight initiatives.

Jacob Kritzer is a senior, majoring in Chemistry. He was interested in this position because his previous tutoring experience combined with his sense of community in Ventura County align with his professional goals. Jacob feels it’s important to be involved in the community and give back to the world that has given him so much already. After graduation, Jacob plans to earn his teaching credential and teach high school science courses. He will be serving at in Oxnard.

Natalie Leon is a senior, majoring in Chemistry with a Biochemistry option. She was interested in this position because STEM is her passion and it aligns closely with her service and career interests. She is also interested in bridging opportunities for high school and community college students to engage in STEM-related research. After graduation, Natalie plans to earn a PhD and conduct biopharmaceutical research. She will be providing technical support for the Center for Community Engagement as a STEM Corps Ambassador.

Haley Anglin is a junior, majoring in Mechatronics Engineering and minoring in Math. As someone who comes from a minority background who wasn’t introduced to STEM until later in life, Haley understands the importance of early exposure. Sparking interest in STEM brings her great joy and she hopes to inspire youth to explore the possibilities of all STEM subjects. After graduation, Haley plans to go to graduate school to study Robotics. She will be serving at in Oxnard.
