Camarillo, Calif., Jan. 31, 2008—91³Ô¹Ï has several events scheduled for the month of February. The following information details some of the events faculty and staff have organized and scheduled that will be happening both on and off the CSUCI campus. Additional events are listed on the CSUCI Calendar, which can be accessed through a link on the home page of the University’s Web site, http://www.csuci.edu.

Thursday, Feb. 7—Poet Gary Soto on campus
91³Ô¹Ï will host a reading from poet Gary Soto at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7. The event will be held in Malibu Hall 100 on the CSUCI campus. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

Soto is a Fresno-based poet as well as a well-known writer for young adults. He is an award-winning author of more than 10 books of poetry. Among his books of poetry are: “A Simple Plan†(Chronicle Books, 2007); “One Kind of Faith†(2003); and “Junior College†(1997). His novels include “Amnesia in a Republican County†(University of New Mexico, 2003); “Poetry Lover†(2001) and “Nickel and Dime†(2000).

Limited parking is available on campus and is $6 for a daily permit. Free parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road parking lot in Camarillo with shuttle service to and from the campus until 10 p.m. Riders should board the CSUCI Vista bus. There will be way-finding signage on campus directing attendees to parking and the event.

Tuesday, Feb. 12—University President Rush speaks to offer State of the University address at Camarillo Chamber luncheon
91³Ô¹Ï President Richard R. Rush will deliver his State of the University address at the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce’s CSUCI Connection Luncheon on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The event will begin at 11 a.m., lunch served at 11:30 a.m., and Rush will speak shortly after.

The event is hosted by the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce and tickets are $40 for Camarillo Chamber members and $50 for non-members. Tickets must be purchased in advance by contacting the Camarillo Chamber at 805-484-4383.

Rush will speak about milestone events that occurred at the University in 2007, including: Accreditation granted by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges; the acquisition of 153 acres for a new University entrance roadway; groundbreaking for the Martin V. Smith Center for Integrative Decision-Making; and the soon-to-be-completed John Spoor Broome Library. He will also outline some of the University’s goals for 2008.

Thursday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 16—Actors From The London Stage perform
91³Ô¹Ï will host the Actors From The London Stage on campus to lead classes and offer a performance. On Thursday, Feb. 14 they will be performing “Taming of the Shrew†in Malibu Hall 140 on the CSUCI campus. The performance begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are free for CSUCI students with an identification card and are $10 for the general public.

Limited parking is available on campus and is $6 for a daily permit. The Actors From The London Stage also will perform “Taming of the Shrew†at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Ventura Center for Spiritual Living, 101 South Laurel St., Ventura. Tickets may be purchased at the door and are $20 for general admission; $15 for senior citizens and teachers; free of charge for CSUCI students with a student identification card; and $15 for students of other institutions.

Now in its 33rd year, Actors From The London Stage is one of the oldest established touring Shakespeare theater companies in the world. Housed and work shopped in England with academic tours booked through the auspices of the Marie P. DeBartolo Center For The Performing Arts at the University of Notre Dame, this program is truly unique.

Offering a tour in the spring and another in the fall, Actors From The London Stage visits approximately 16 to 20 universities in a year, giving students and faculty around the country a chance to experience a dynamic and enriching performing arts program.

Developed by Professor Homer Swander at the University of California-Santa Barbara and founded by the renowned British actor, Patrick Stewart, the one week residency program is truly an actor driven tour de force.

Tuesday, Feb. 19—Author David Allen presents ‘Getting Things Done: the Art of Stress-Free Productivity’
The Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics at 91³Ô¹Ï will host David Allen, an author and the founder and president of the David Allen Company, a management consulting, coaching, and training company, on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Registration and a mixer for the event will begin at 4:45 p.m. and Allen’s presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held in Malibu Hall 100 on the CSUCI campus.

Allen’s presentation titled “Getting Things Done: the Art of Stress-Free Productivity†is free and open to the public but seating is limited. An RSVP is required and can be made by calling 805-437-8598. Parking will be available on the campus and will be complimentary. Signage will be posted for the event parking.

Allen is an international best-selling author of two books, “Getting Things Done: the Art of Stress-Free Productivity†(Viking; 2001) and “Ready for Anything: 52 Productivity Principles for Work and Life†(Viking; 2003).
