WHAT:聽 鈥淲hat Is Engineering?鈥� 鈥� Engineering Day

顿贰罢础滨尝厂:听 91吃瓜 in cooperation with Johns Hopkins University has sponsored a program titled 鈥淲hat Is Engineering?鈥� for the past four weeks. This program is for high school students, and the objective is to interest students in engineering careers. On Friday, July 25, the program will culminate with an engineering panel discussion, bridge breaking competition, an awards ceremony, and luncheon.
Forty students from local high schools participated in the program, including 30 from the California MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) program. MESA enables educationally disadvantaged students to prepare for and graduate from a four-year college or university with a math-based degree in areas such as engineering, the sciences, computer science, and mathematics.
The students have been working for the past four weeks building their bridges; they built a digital controller to get a car to follow a flashlight; they built a better mousetrap, where the mouse was a ping pong ball; and they measured the concrete surface under the Broome Library portico and height of the Bell Tower on campus.聽
