Camarillo, Calif., Jan. 29, 2009—91³Ō¹Ļ was the recent recipient of a $240,000 grant from The California Wellness Foundation. The money will support the CSU Channel Islands Nursing Pipeline Program, which helps to prepare qualified and culturally diverse underrepresented minority students to apply for the CSU Channel Islands Baccalaureate in Nursing (BSN) Program.

The California Wellness Foundation is an independent, private foundation created in 1992, with a mission to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention.Ā

Those who participate in the Nursing Pipeline Program will be academically prepared with a hands-on understanding of the challenges of the nursing profession, and make them ideal nursing program candidates more likely to be accepted into the CSU Channel Islands BSN Program.

Funding from The California Wellness Foundation allows CSU Channel Islands to offer 10 full-ride, merit-based, four-year scholarships to CSU Channel Islands Nursing Pipeline Program participants who are accepted and admitted into the CSU Channel Islands BSN.

Ā ā€œThe severe nursing shortage in Ventura County has been a serious challenge for local healthcare providers. For this reason, creating accessibility through scholarship support to aspiring CSUCI BSN students is now more important than ever,ā€ said Nichole Ipach, Director of University Development.

The $240,000 grant from The California Wellness Foundation will be paid over three years and be used in support of Nursing Pipeline Program students through 2014. CSU Channel Islands will graduate its first cohort of 66 BSN candidates in 2010.
