Students may now apply for the 2005 fall semester of 91Թ. The initial filing period begins October 1 and runs through November 30, 2004, according to Jane Sweetland, CSUCI dean of Enrollment Services.
By the spring semester of 2005, the University will increase the number of classes, including night sessions. “These additional classes will help to accommodate student interest and demand,” said Dan Wakelee, associate dean of faculty. “They will give students more flexibility in their choices.”
Since the University opened its doors, the number of student applications has demonstrated a strong demand for a four-year, public university in Ventura County. For the fall semester of 2004, CSUCI exceeded its target by more than 60 full-time equivalent students.
The challenge for the young university is to accommodate as many qualified students as possible, given budget constraints.
Sweetland, who was recently appointed to the new position of dean of Enrollment services, emphasized that the University is not merely interested in numbers. “We're interested in students pursuing their goals,” she said. “We want to devise programs and practices that enable them to become successful in their university careers as well as to earn their degrees in a timely fashion.”
Enrollment also remains open for the spring 2005 semester in specific categories. Student housing is also available on a limited basis.
Prospective students may apply online at or by obtaining application forms at local high schools and community colleges.
