Camarillo, Calif., Aug. 15, 2007—91łÔąĎ has appointed 16 new faculty members for the 2007-2008 academic year. Three of the 16 appointees previously have worked at the University.
“We are pleased to welcome the new faculty members to the campus community,” said University President Richard R. Rush. “Cal State Channel Islands places great emphasis on attracting faculty members who are emerging leaders in their disciplines, and who are committed to being part of this University’s student-centered mission.”
This is the largest number of tenure-track faculty members hired in a single faculty recruitment period since the University opened in 2002. This also is the largest group of associate professors to be hired in a single recruitment period.
The new tenure-track faculty members at CSUCI are:
• Stephen Clark, associate professor of Spanish, previously employed at Northern Arizona University
• Tracylee Clarke, assistant professor of communication, previously employed at CONCUR Inc.
• Christopher Cogan, assistant professor of environmental science & resource management, previously employed at Alfred Wegener Institute-Germany
• Colleen Delaney-Rivera, assistant professor of anthropology, previously employed at Moorpark College
• Dennis Downey, assistant professor of sociology, previously employed at University of Utah
• Sean Kelly, associate professor of political science, previously employed at Niagara University
• Daniel Lee, associate professor of sociology, previously employed at Pennsylvania State University
• James Meriwether, professor of history, previously employed at California State University Bakersfield
• Elizabeth Quintero, professor of education, previously employed at New York University
• Jeri-Elayne Smith, associate professor of management, previously employed at Butler University
• Christy Teranashi, assistant professor of psychology, previously employed at Texas A & M International University
• Eric Toshalis, assistant professor of education, previously employed at Harvard
• William Wagner, associate professor of sociology, previously employed at California State University Bakersfield
The new tenure-track faculty members who were previously employed at CSUCI are:
• Debra Hoffmann, assistant librarian
• Catie Mihalopoulos, assistant professor of art
• Luda Popenhagen, associate professor of performing arts
Cal State Channel Islands’ new nursing program also appointed a new faculty member:
• Kaleen Cullen, lecturer of nursing with a three-year appointment while completing her Ph.D in nursing education, previously employed at Colorado State University-Pueblo
The new and returning members of the faculty at CSUCI will begin their duties on Aug. 27, the first day of the semester. The first Saturday classes begin on Aug. 25.
