Camarillo, Calif., Aug. 16, 2007—91łÔąĎ is pleased to announce that Wesley Cooper has been selected as one of 15 individuals statewide to receive the Governor’s Employee Safety Award for 2006. Cooper is a facilities project supervisor in the operations unit in Operations, Planning & Construction at CSUCI.
Cooper earned this state honor through his design and implementation of training for Operations, Planning & Construction personnel to prepare for the online National Incident Management System (NIMS) course. He also participated in the Emergency Operating Center Regional Emergency Drill held in July 2006 on campus, which simulated a terrorist attack. In addition, Cooper has ensured on-going safety training for operations unit personnel.
Winners of the Governor’s Employee Safety Awards will be honored at a ceremony on Aug. 24 at California State University, Sacramento. The governor or his representative will award the winners certificates. In total there will be 168 awardees honored at the ceremony—16 groups and 15 individuals.
Along with Cooper, there have been other CSUCI employees who have previously been honored with the Governor’s Employee Safety Award including: Richard Arias, maintenance mechanic in the operations unit; Robert Knypstra, safety coordinator in the operations unit; and Robert “Bobby” Perez, warehouse worker in the Logistical Services unit.
The Governor’s Employee Safety Awards program was launched in 1980 in order to recognize individuals and groups of employees who distinguish themselves through outstanding safety and health service to the state. Awards have been presented for saving lives, responding to hazardous events, and for developing safety programs that were not part of the person’s normal duties. The awards presented are for projects and events completed during the previous calendar year. Awardees are selected by the Office of Risk and Insurance Management Nomination Committee.
For more information about the award Wesley Cooper will receive contact Ceal Potts, communications specialist at CSUCI, 805-437-8940 or cecilia.potts@csuci.edu
