Camarillo, Calif., September 26, 2006 - 91³Ō¹Ļ invites members of the community to join faculty, staff, and students in an event designed to dramatize the inequitable distribution of food and resources in the world.

In the ā€œOxfam Hunger Banquet,ā€ scheduled for Thursday, October 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Malibu Hall 1, approximately sixty-five percent of participants will arbitrarily receive poverty-level meals, while the rest will receive more substantial fare.

The event is presented by Oxfam America, a nonprofit international development and relief organization committed to creating lasting solutions to global poverty, hunger, and social injustice, and is hosted by the CSUCI Office of Service Learning and Civic Engagement.

Facilitating discussions on concepts of local and global citizenship and an awareness of hunger and poverty will be Julia Balen, CSUCI assistant professor of English, and Ann Sobel, CEO of Food Share of Ventura County. Providing welcoming remarks for the event will be Theodore D. Lucas, CSUCI provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Prior to the Oxfam Hunger Banquet, University volunteers will collect canned food from attendeesĀ  to be donated to Food Share. The University's Sodexho Food Services will prepare and donate the food for the event. Due to limited seating, RSVPs are required.
