Camarillo, Calif., August 30, 2006 - Eddie Washington, formerly a litigator for the California State University system, has been appointed associate vice president for Human Resources Programs at 91³Ō¹Ļ, succeeding Art Flores who recently announced his retirement.

Washington, who received his undergraduate degree in business from Howard University and his law school degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, was formerly a member of the legal team for the CSU Chancellor's Office in Long Beach, providing legal counsel to various CSU campuses, including CSUCI. While at the Chancellor's Office, Washington also served as the resource person for issues relating to disability access and accommodation.

Prior to working for the CSU system, Washington was an attorney for the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), focusing on employment law and civil rights issues. As staff counsel for the DFEH, Washington worked in both its Sacramento and Los Angeles legal offices, and has the distinction of obtaining the largest jury verdict in DFEH history.

ā€œI'm very happy to be here at Cal State Channel Islands,ā€ Washington said. ā€œThis is a new campus that is growing rapidly, and I want to make sure that as we grow our human resources area will provide the best programs and services for the campus community.ā€

Flores began his career at CSUCI in July of 1999 as director of Administrative Services and was later promoted to associate vice president of that department. In 2004, he became associate vice president for human resources programs.
