Camarillo, Calif., May 14, 2007 - 91吃瓜 Professor Dr. Ching-Hua Wang has been named the recipient of the 2007 CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) Andreoli Biotechnology Service Award.
This award honors CSU faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to the development of biotechnology in the California State University. The first recipient of this award was named in 1992.
鈥淒r. Ching-Hua Wang, one of our original faculty members, has distinguished herself through her teaching and research. This award acknowledges her lifetime achievement in connection with her research within industry,鈥� said University President Richard R. Rush. 鈥淲e extend our congratulations to her on this recognition and her contributions as an outstanding faculty member of this campus.鈥�
The award is named after Dr. A. Andreoli (Cal State, LA) who had high expectations for everyone, especially students and colleagues. Andreoli was committed to his students and to the idea that the CSU has a special role to play in higher education by providing opportunities to a large population of non-traditional students who otherwise would have fewer options for advancement.聽 Because he felt fortunate that life had provided him with many opportunities, Andreoli believed that it was his responsibility to do everything he could in order to provide similar opportunities for others.
CSUPERB is a multi-campus program created in 1987 designed to channel system-wide resources and catalyze interdisciplinary, inter-campus, synergistic endeavors involving Biology and Chemistry departments as well as Engineering, Agriculture and Computer Science. The interdisciplinary nature of biotechnology includes areas such as bioengineering; agricultural biotechnology; human pharmaceutical and health applications; environmental and natural resource biotechnology; molecular ecology; marine biotechnology; and bioinformatics and computational biology as they are applied to molecular questions. CSUPERB also recognizes basic research in the molecular and cellular life sciences as contributing to biotechnology.
