Camarillo, Calif., August 24, 2006 - The CPA/Law Society of Ventura County announces its annual Scholarship Symposium Fundraiser, scheduled for Friday, September 15, from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Pierpont Inn, Ventura.
Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for students at CSUCI, the University of California at Santa Barbara, the Pepperdine School of Law, and the Ventura College of Law. In addition, attendance at the symposiums provides four hours of continuing education credit for accountants and attorneys.
Three panel discussions are featured. Speaking on the business leaders panel are Adam Firestone, president, Firestone Vineyard, and co-founder, Firestone-Walker Fine Ales; John Hegeman, chief operating officer, Fox Atomic, a division of Fox Filmed Entertainment; and J. D. (Jamey) Power, IV, executive vice president, International Operations, J. D. Power & Associates. Panel moderator is Tim Gallagher, publisher, Ventura County Star.
Speaking at the chief financial officers session are Martha Groszewski, CPA, chief financial officer and treasurer, Lost Arrow Corporation, parent company of Patagonia, Inc.; Heather McCollum, CPA, chief financial officer, Firestone Vineyard and Firestone-Walker Fine Ales; and Zohar Ziv, CPA, chief financial officer and executive vice president, finance and administration, Deckers Outdoor Corp. The moderator is Coby Harmon, CPA, professor of accounting, UCSB.
Participating in the general counsel panel are Lee Smith, Esq., executive vice president, corporate development, and general counsel and secretary, Guitar Center; Tony Wall, Esq., executive vice president, business affairs, and secretary and general counsel, Big Dog Holding Company; and Mona Patel, Esq., vice president, legal and human resources and general counsel, Patagonia, Inc. The moderator is Judge David Long, Ventura County Superior Court.
The three symposium panels are sponsored by Bank of America, Mid-State Bank & Trust, and Santa Barbara Bank & Trust.
The CPA/Law Society, with chapters in Ventura, Westlake, and Santa Barbara, is an organization principally comprised of certified public accountants and attorneys who meet monthly to hear speakers on various topics of professional or personal interest. This year, the goal of the CPA/Law Society is to donate $30,000 in scholarships in conjunction with matching scholarships with its members. The scholarships will be awarded on December 1, with Mike Scioscia, manager of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, as special guest speaker.
The cost for the CPA/Law Society Symposium is $75 for members, students and faculty, and $100 for non-members.
