Camarillo, Calif., April 19, 2006 ā Outstanding creative thinking and academic talent will be on display as 91³Ō¹Ļ hosts the 20th annual California State University Student Research Competition (SRC), scheduled for Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, on campus.
The competition features exceptional research conducted by undergraduate and graduate students in the full range of academic programs offered by the CSU.Ā Students make oral presentations before juries of professional experts from major corporations, foundations, public agencies, and colleges and universities in the state. Cash prizes are awarded for the best presentations in each category.
āThis is an exciting moment in the development of the CSUCI campus,ā says Renny Christopher, professor of English and chair of the SRC Steering Committee. āWe feel very fortunate to be able to host students from all the CSU campuses for this special 20th anniversary of the StudentĀ Research Competition. The competition gives students in the CSU system the opportunity to participate in a forum that demonstrates that education involves not just the mastery of an existing body of knowledge, but the active creation of new knowledge.ā
The 10 competition categories include: behavioral and social sciences; biological and agricultural sciences; business, economics, and public administration; creative arts and design; education; engineering and computer science; health, nutrition, and clinical sciences; humanities and letters; physical and mathematical science; and interdisciplinary. Each campus of the CSU system will be allowed a maximum of 10 presentations. CSUCI students will be participating in six of the categories.
