Camarillo, Calif., March 2, 2006 – 91Թ will host a presentation, “16,000 Years of African History: What It Means to World History and How It Relates Today,” Thursday, March 16, as part of a four-part lecture series sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Ventura County, with a lecture taking place each Thursday of the month of March at various college campuses throughout the area.
The lectures, called “The Many Faces of Africa – The Series,” are hosted by CSUCI, Pepperdine University, and California Lutheran University. The CSUCI event, the second in the series, will feature Dr. Chris Ehret, professor of history at UCLA. It will be held at 2 p.m. in the CSUCI Bell Tower Collaboratorium.
The first lecture, “Traveling Through Africa: The Myths, The Magic and The Realities,” was presented by Robert Klitgaard, Ph.D., dean of the RAND Graduate School and the Ford Distinguished Professor of International Development and Security, at Pepperdine University.
Following the CSUCI presentation will be “East Africa: The Politics and Religions and Climbing the Peaks of Mt. Kilamanjaro,” Thursday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at California Lutheran University, featuring Richard Regnier and Georgianna Regnier, environmental lawyers and travelers.
The last lecture, “South Africa: AIDS, Disease, Crime and the Effects on the Global Economy,” will be held Thursday, March 30, at 2 p.m. at Pepperdine University, featuring Angela Hawkens, Ph.D., Pepperdine University professor of public policy.
All lectures are open to the public. Cost is $30 per session. Students with a World Affairs Council/Visa will be admitted without charge. The World Affairs Council will also sponsor a trip to Africa in the fall or winter of 2006 based on this series. The trip will be open to the public and limited to 35 people.
