Camarillo, Calif., June 5, 2006 - You can win a $1,000,000, a BMW, or a host of other valuable prizes at the inaugural 91³Ô¹Ï 2006 Dolphin Classic Golf Tournament, to be held Monday, June 19, at two of the region's finest golf courses.
Golfers have a chance at prize money and cars and non-golfers are also invited to enjoy a barbecue and auction of more than 50 prizes, including a weekend at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, a Kauai condo and golf package, and Hollywood Bowl tickets.
Participants in the CSUCI Dolphin Classic will be supporting the University's goal of establishing an athletics program. All proceeds will support a program that is being developed by a University committee assisted by Cedric Dempsey, the former head of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Golfers will compete in either a gross competition format at the Saticoy Country Club or in an individual Calloway competition at the Spanish Hills Country Club. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. at both courses. The barbecue will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the auction, both of which will be held at the Spanish Hills Country Club.
Following the tournament, the top winners from each course will vie for a $1,000,000 prize, with each trying to score a hole-in-one from approximately 135 yards out from the 18th hole at Spanish Hills Country Club. In addition, golfers have a chance to win one of two BMWs or $10,000 by sinking a hole-in-one at designated holes at each course during the tournament.
Golfers may enter as a team at different sponsorship levels. The cost of playing as an individual is $350 per person. To attend the barbecue and auction, the cost is $50 per person. The event has attracted a number of sponsors, including BMW of North America as the title sponsor, the Ventura County Star as the gold sponsor, Grossman Imaging Centers, Troop Real Estate, Inc. and Canteen Vending as silver sponsors, as well as a number of other firms in the area.
Chairing the event is Cindy Wolfsohn, a member of the CSUCI Foundation Board. President Richard R. Rush, along with several students and Foundation Board members and staff, will welcome participants.
