June 7, 2024 - Four out of the nine artists chosen for Museum of Ventura County’s
“Innovision: Ventura County Artists to Watch” exhibition are from CSU Channel Islands.
The show opening is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 at the museum, which is located
at 100 E. Main Street in Ventura.
The featured CSUCI artists are: Museum of Art & Art History chair Marianne McGrath; Associate Professor of Art Jasmine Delgado, Professor of Art Luke Matjas and Art alumna Elisa Torres.
Delgado was chosen for the show after the museum’s head curator, Carlos Ortega, visited her studio. Delgado selected pieces for the show that depict often overlooked elements of a community landscape such as signage and storefronts.
“It means a lot to be included in this exhibition since I’ve spent the bulk of my existence living just south of here in the San Fernando Valley,” Delgado said. “Being able to discuss parallels between my experiences living there and now, Ventura County is a really exciting opportunity.”
Matjas works in everything from natural elements to digital media, Torres is a muralist
and McGrath will be doing an installation of her trademark large-scale work.
“It’s an absolute honor to be included in this exhibition with a group of artists of such talent, but I am perhaps most proud that the dynamic and cutting-edge research of some of our Studio ART faculty and alumni is being highlighted on such a stage,” McGrath said.
After Saturday’s opening, the show will be on display at the museum for one year.
The show is free and open to the public. For more, visit: .
