July 19, 2024 – CSUCI’s Dance Studies program will be host to the annual International Summer Immersion program, a weeklong event featuring movement, sensing, storytelling, and more!
CSUCI Dance Studies is built on the foundation that dance is essential to being human, is for EVERY body, and serves as our most primal form of communication. Chair of Performing Arts and Assistant Professor of Dance Studies, Heather Castillo, said, “As we wrap up our second year since launching in 2022, it is exciting to offer our students, faculty, and local community the chance to experience and learn from S. Ama Wray and her deep explorations and knowledge of West African movement, creativity, and vitality.”
Grounded in the African Science of polyrhythmic sensing, ǻ徱DZDz® is moving toward becoming an evidence-based movement and music improvisation practice that promotes wellness.
The International Summer Immersion is six days of dance exploration culminating in public performances. The final performance of the week, “Rhythm-philia,” will take place on Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. in the Malibu Hall Dance Studio at CSUCI.
