Feb. 20, 2024
Dear Colleagues,
Our institutional and academic identity work has progressed since the Fall 2023 Convocation, when I first introduced the“One Health” visionfor CSUCI’s third decade of being (pp. 5-7), and since Provost Avila shared his “four buckets” action plan for how the One Health vision will be operationalized in the Division of Academic Affairs.
As an initial step toward inviting campus engagement in thinking about and expanding upon these ideas, awas created in October 2023 to review, critique, and build upon the Provost’s and my draft,, which briefly defines from our perspectives the One Health construct and those four action areas in Academic Affairs:
- LEAP: Leading through Academic Experiential Programs
- LUX: Providing a State-of-the-Art Learning User Experience
- APEX: Serving from the Peak of the Regional P-20 Public Educational System
- FAST: Faculty as Scholars and Teachers
The Select Committee was convened for the purpose of reviewing and suggesting revisions to that CSUCI for 2030+ draft. We’ve met as a large group three times sinceNovember 3, and five subgroups worked from early November through the first week of December to critique and expand upon that draft. Detailed notes on those conversations are embedded infrom our last convening on February 14. From these notes, we will be creating a President’s Select Committee Report and sharing it with the campus by the end of this month.
We hope to engage broad, sustained campus engagement conversations about our institutional and academic identity for the coming decade and beyond, beginning in March. We will be rolling out a multi-pronged approach toward that end, with virtual and in-person opportunities to gather, and with synchronous and asynchronous opportunities to provide feedback–all of which will inform creation of a white paper planned for completion by the end of this semester, which will itself mark the launching of our next full strategic planning initiative, CSUCI for 2030+.
ʱsave the following dates and timesfor virtual and in-person opportunities to gather as a campus community (with additional opportunities coming soon for providing feedback in synchronous and asynchronous formats):
- March 5, 1 to 2:30 p.m.:Webinar on the President’s Select Committee Report
- March 6, 10 a.m. to Noon:In-person Campus Discussion, Grand Salon
- March 13, 9 to 11 a.m.:In-person Campus Discussion, Grand Salon
We will schedule additional sessions in April to include students. More details coming soon.
Sincerely,
Richard Yao, PhD.
President
