April 16, 2024
Dear Campus Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bradley Olin, Ed.D., as CSUCI’s next Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs, effective July 15, 2024.
Dr. Olin comes to us from the Cabrillo Community College District in Aptos, CA, where he is serving as Assistant Superintendent and Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services (2019-present). His current portfolio is closely aligned with the responsibilities he will assume here at CSUCI. His familiarity with the CSU is strong, having served at San Jose State as Associate Vice President for Academic Budgets & Planning (2017-19) and Director for Budget Planning & Risk Management (2015-17). Before that, Dr. Olin worked in the CSU Chancellor’s Office as a System Budget Analyst. He is extraordinarily well positioned to support and lead the Division of Business & Financial Affairs and the campus overall as CSUCI’s new Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer.
Dr. Olin’s depth in the CSU goes farther still. He is also a CSU graduate, having earned his Doctor of Education degree from CSU Long Beach in Education. Additionally, he holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California, and his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Latin American Studies awarded by Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
I am glad to share that Dr. Olin comes to us with the highest of recommendations, consistently, from past and current colleagues and supervisors. Of many superlatives offered, I particularly appreciate his reputation as a great collaborator, a hard worker, a responsive communicator, and an analytical, solution-oriented, and creative thinker with a strategic, long-range planning style. I also appreciate how he characterizes himself, as a “finance guy with the heart of an educator.â€
A paragraph from Dr. Olin’s cover letter, when applying for this position, communicates better than I can the philosophy and energy he brings to his work. He wrote, “In my varied roles, one thing has remained constant: my focus on delivering accurate, objective, timely, accessible, and visually appealing information while building strong relationships and trust across campuses, divisions, and departments. Aside from financial acumen, what has set me apart as a leader are my communication skills, commitment to mission, passion for delivering results, and care for individuals who report to and work with me. In each of my roles I have committed to collaboratively working with my teams, rolling up my sleeves to both solve and prevent future problems, and mentoring and guiding the work of others. The victories I relish the most are the ones that involve empowering those in my care to achieve success on their own terms.â€
In accepting this leadership position, Dr. Olin stated, “I am thrilled to return to the CSU family and contribute to the success of my favorite campus in the system. I am excited to collaborate with such a fabulous team of professionals and look forward to what we can accomplish together.â€
I want to take a moment to express my sincere thanks to Barbara Rex and Laurie Nichols for jointly stepping into divisional leadership roles for the past few years, and to the entire division for support provided during this time.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Bradley Olin to CSUCI.
Sincerely,
Richard Yao, Ph.D.
President
